Spring Break Road Trips!

Happy April to our John's Automotive Care Family!

With the new month of April, our team decided this was the perfect time to inspire our wonderful customers & give some road trip ideas for Spring. Our team hopes you find some inspiration for your next California adventure, from day trips to long weekends or weeklong getaways!

Anza-Borrego Desert State Park

Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is a must for a road trip & is the largest state park in California. Just under a two-hour drive from our shop, this park consists of over five hundred miles of dirt roads, with 12 wilderness areas with many miles of hiking trails. California's largest state park provides visitors with an unparalleled opportunity to experience the wonders of the California Desert. The park's name comes from Spanish explorer Juan Bautista de Anza, mixed with Borrego, or bighorn sheep. Find camping reservations here

Borrego Springs

Just under a two-hour drive from our shop, in the middle of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, lies a hidden gem of a town called Borrego Springs. A fun fact about Borrego is that it's the only California town surrounded by a state park! Another fun fact is that it's an official International Dark Sky Community. Meaning this town is dedicated to protecting the night sky from light pollution. Isn't that great? For overnight accommodations, if you're looking for something more luxurious, try Borrego Springs Resorts & Spa -"Experience the beauty and luxury of our California resort and spa situated in the foothills of the Santa Rosa Mountains. Enjoy high-end amenities, a full-service spa, outdoor heated pool, a fully-appointed fitness center, and much more during your stay."

Arizona

If you feel like taking a long trip to another state, Coconino National Forest is one of the most stunning places in Arizona & an excellent destination for spring break. This national forest covers more than 1.8 million acres (impressive) and is home to many different ecosystems and landscapes. You could lose entire weekends to its wilderness!

Joshua Tree

This world-famous park lies at an ecological crossroads-the high Mojave Desert meeting with the low Colorado Desert. This crossroad results in unique desert flora, including those wacky namesake trees (actually a type of yucca) and leafy groves of palm trees. Joshua Tree's beauty shines around the clock, with many vibrant sunsets melting into nights where the dark sky is heavily sprinkled with uncountable stars and constellations.

This park offers attractions for all ages. Joshua Tree is known for its enormous climbable rocks, which are very intriguing to kids & Joshua Tree provides a natural playground full of them! More experienced climbers can explore more than 400 climbing formations and 8,000 established climbing routes.

Flagstaff

If you want to continue on interstate ten and pass through Palm Springs and Joshua tree, continue your drive and make it a road trip. Go through Flagstaff, AZ & spend some time at the Grand Canyon! About eight hours from our shop, there are endless possibilities for a beautiful and unforgettable spring break trip. Flagstaff is one of the oldest settlements in Arizona, and it's filled with rock dwellings and crumbling ruins that speak to centuries of living.

Grand Canyon

Not that this location needs any introduction, but this is a road trip that is a must in your lifetime. Grand Canyon National Park, founded in 1919, includes an insane 1-mile deep gorge carved by the Colorado River. Considered one of the world's seven wonders (for a good reason.) With Grand Canyon National Park Lodges providing the premier in-park lodging at the South Rim – with iconic lodges like El Tovar and Bright Angel.

Sunset/Sunrise Viewing Locations

"There is no one best place for watching the sunrise or sunset, just good places, and better places. Look for a viewpoint that jets into the canyon, with east and west views." - Flickr

• While Hopi Point is unquestionably a desirable viewpoint for sunset, it attracts crowds of people and buses.

• Yaki and Yavapai Points are accessible by shuttle, offer spectacular canyon views, and are less congested.

• Lipan, Navajo, and Desert Viewpoints offer incredible views of the canyon, with extensive stretches of the river below.

Big Bear Lake

An incredible spring break drive includes a trip to Big Bear Lake! The beauty of Big Bear Lake is that it's fabulous all-season long. Families can enjoy hiking, mountain biking, and many adventure activities. Visit the marinas to rent various watercraft, from pontoon boats to kayaks and canoes. Stroll the village with its boutique shops. You can even pan for gold!
